Heverkan

Heverkan
The Heverkan are a large confederation of more than 20 tribes who formally belonged to the Botan emirate until it was taken over by the Ottoman Empire in 1847. Struggles for the leadership then broke out.
The unity of the confederation collapsed with the murder of its paramount leader in 1919. Hajo eventually emerged as the new leader. In March 1926, Hajo seized police and frontier posts in Turkey, but the Turkish army then forced him to retreat into Syria. There he became one of the main leaders of the Khoybun, which did much of the planning for the Ararat revolt in 1927-1930. In current times the leadership of the Heverkan is not institutionalized, moving from one family to another.
